How is CNC Used in Different Applications
CNC (Computer Numerical Control) machining automates the precise cutting, shaping, and finishing of materials for applications in aerospace, medical, automotive, and industrial manufacturing. Powered by advanced CAM (Computer-Aided Manufacturing) software, CNC machining ensures precision, repeatability, and efficiency in every operation.
At Rototip, we leverage a suite of specialized CNC techniques, including Swiss machining, EDM cutting, and gear fabrication, to meet the most demanding manufacturing projects. These specialized processes allow us to create complex, high-performance components with exceptional accuracy, minimizing human error and optimizing production quality. Our expertise in these advanced machining methods and quality control allows us to serve diverse industries, providing solutions for critical applications where precision and reliability are required.

Swiss Machining
Swiss machining, also known as Swiss-type lathe machining, represents the high precision in CNC turning, particularly for small, complex components demanding tight tolerances and superior surface finishes. This specialized process distinguishes itself from conventional turning by employing a sliding headstock that precisely guides the workpiece close to the cutting tools, minimizing deflection and vibration even when machining slender or long parts, a critical advantage for achieving dimensional accuracy and preventing tool breakage.
Our expertise in Swiss machining allows us to manufacture intricate components with micron-level accuracy in a variety of materials, including stainless steel, titanium, and alloys. We specialize in serving industries such as medical, aerospace, electronics, and others where precision and reliability are the top priority.
Swiss lathe machines are often equipped with multiple tool turrets, live tooling, and sub-spindles, enabling complex, multi-axis machining operations in a single setup. This reduces handling time and further enhances precision, leading to improved productivity.

Electrical Discharge Machining
Electrical Discharge Machining (EDM), a non-traditional machining process, uses the power of precisely controlled electrical sparks to remove material from a workpiece. EDM is ideal for machining extremely hard materials, intricate shapes, and delicate workpieces that would be challenging or impossible to machine with other machining methods.
Our expertise in EDM allows us to machine a wide range of conductive materials, including hardened steels and titanium. This expertise, combined with an in-house quality control lab, offers tight tolerances and requirements.
There are several types of EDM; Die-sinker EDM, also known as ram EDM, employs a shaped electrode, typically made of graphite or copper, to create a cavity or impression in the workpiece. The electrode, precisely shaped to the desired form, is gradually eroded by the sparks, replicating its shape into the workpiece. Wire EDM uses a thin, continuously moving wire as the electrode. The wire, guided by CNC controls, precisely cuts through the workpiece, creating intricate 2D shapes and profiles with exceptional accuracy. Die-sinker excels in creating complex 3D cavities and forms, while wire EDM is unmatched for cutting intricate contours, sharp corners, and narrow slots.

Gear Fabrication
Gear fabrication is a specialized manufacturing process including CNC gear hobbing, grinding, and shaping, allowing us to produce gears for performance across diverse industries.
We understand the interplay between hobbing, shaping, and grinding, allowing us to select the optimal combination of techniques to achieve the desired gear specifications working with a variety of materials, including alloy steels, stainless steels, and hardened tool steels.
Gear hobbing utilizes a rotating, multi-toothed cutting tool (the hob) to generate gear teeth on a cylindrical workpiece. The synchronized rotation of the hob and workpiece, combined with precise CNC control over feed rates and cutting depths, allows for the rapid and accurate production of a variety of gear types, including spur, helical, worm, spline, and even sprocket gears. Different from hobbing, gear shaping uses a reciprocating cutter for creating teeth, particularly advantageous for internal gears and complex geometries. Our CNC gear-shaping processes offer flexibility and precision. Grinding is to bring gear into the final shape and finish requirements for accuracy. Gear grinding removes minute amounts of material using specialized grinding wheels. Whether you need continuous gear grinding, bevel gear grinding, or single rib gear grinding, Rototip can offer alternatives for both function and finishing.

How do you handle intellectual property (IP) and confidentiality?Protecting your intellectual property (IP) is one of our top priorities. All customerfiles, designs, and communications are handled with strict confidentiality and are securely stored. We use encryption protocols to safeguard your data both in transit and at rest with only authorized personnel having access to sensitive information. Your designs are never distributed to more than a couple of engineers and operators who need to see the drawings because they will most likely be working on the production.

How do you ensure parts meet the quality requirements? We adhere to a quality management system that ensures every part meets the required specifications. Our process includes: Material supplier selection: We work with a select group of suppliers providing us the required materials in the right form and size. Depending on our history with each supplier, the materials we procure are tested for chemical composition, strength, hardness, and more. Selection of the machine and operator: Among all the workshops we work with, we work with and train an algorithm that awards the manufacturing of parts depending on the customer, material, geometry, tolerances, lead time, and quantity. Upon selection, our own engineers work with the operator throughout the production process from the initial CAM engineering to the deburring of the parts. Defining of quality control process & equipment: Together with our project managers and manufacturing engineers, our own quality engineers work out a detailed quality control plan specifying the following details, just to name a few: List of our quality equipment will be used during the process The percentage of parts that will be inspected visually, with caliper, with micrometers and other handheld devices, and/or on a CMM if any, list of measurements that cannot be measured Packaging: We operate with a detailed packaging guideline, clarifying how parts should be packaged, tagged, documented, and shipped. First Article Inspections (FAI): To ensure that the first part produced matches your exact design, we will ship you the first parts manufactured. Only after the client’s approval will we proceed with the production of the entire order. Final Inspection: All parts are inspected for dimensional accuracy, surface finish, and mechanical integrity before shipment. Certification Compliance: We possess ISO 9001 to ensure the highest levels of quality. Should you have any further questions, please drop us an email at quality@rototip.com.
